What is the best way to reach you?
I believe good communication is essential to ensuring the success of our students and want to make sure we are able to communicate efficiently and effectively throughout the semester. E-mail is the best way to contact me, although you may still call if you prefer. My e-mail address is [email protected]
Do you give extra credit?
As stated in the syllabus, I do not extend “desperation” extra-credit assignments, but I do provide several opportunities for students to improve their grade throughout the semester. Students must take advantage of these opportunities when they are offered otherwise there is no way to gain additional points.
Do you offer tutorial?
Yes. Tutorial is offered by appointment only, after school, Monday-Friday, from 3:25-3:45pm. Tutorial is most effective when the students have completed all related assignments and come prepared with specific questions. Parents can help by reviewing vocabulary and key ideas with the student daily.
How often do you assign homework?
Often. Just as great athletes train and practice to excel at their sport, I believe that it is important to “train” for academic subjects as well. However, I do not assign homework “just because”, it is my expectation that students be familiar with the material assigned in class the next day or have questions prepared to ask.
Is there a Milestone Exam for this course?
YES! The test will be administered in April and will count as 20% of the student's grade.
How can I receive class updates via Remind?
For Economics: text StatenEcon1920 to 81010
For US History: text StatenUS20 to 81010
How often do you post grades?
I make a point to try to have all assignments graded, returned, and in the computer within 2-3 days. Please understand that in order to do this and provide students with an adequate number of opportunities to improve their grade, it is essential that students have regular attendance. Current assignments = priority.
What types of opportunities will be available for the students to improve their grade? Great question! See below:
How you can improve your grade….
- Review the syllabus with your parents/guardians. Complete the syllabus confirmation online during the first week of school or within 3 days for students who are added to the class after the first week.
- Beginning August 12th, 2019 (Fall Semester) and January 13th, 2020 (Spring Semester), parents can send me an email from THEIR email address with the following information: a) student’s current grade in Infinite Campus, b) student’s current number of absences, c) student’s current number of tardies, student’s name in the subject line. This will be an ongoing opportunity at the end of each week for the entire semester, however, there are specific guidelines that must be followed in order for credit to be given. The emails must be sent no earlier than 4pm Friday or later than 8am the following Monday. I will not give credit for emails sent outside of these parameters.
I will give a few other opportunities throughout the semester, however, those opportunities must be taken advantage of when offered. I WILL NOT CREATE SPECIAL EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS FOR STUDENTS so please do not ask and be sure to take advantage of the opportunities I do have available.
What should I do if I need a signature for a field trip?
Go to the class calendar, click on the day's event. In place of my signature, write the assignment you will miss down on your paper and then show me your permission slip.
